History of Munich

Miska even made it the seat of the principality. Munich began to develop both economically and culturally during the German Empire. In 1871, the city was still inhabited by only 170,000 people, but in 1933 the population exceeded 840,000. Back then, painters and poets often came here to create. During World War II, about 90% of the historic monuments, more than half of the entire city’s structures, fell victim to the bombings.

A real breakthrough came when locks began to be made of brass, as this was already suitable for series production. The twist-lock was invented in the eighteenth century and continues to be the basis of our lock structures to this day. American inventor and mechanical engineer Linus Yale invented the locking device where the doorknob can open the lock. After World War II, the main thing was to shine in the old light of the city and rebuild its historic buildings. After a gradual reconstruction, the city regained its historic cityscape, and the economy and tourism also boomed.
